About

Oblivion City Limits is an art brand (encompassing hair, makeup, visual art, caricatures, and clothing) created and run by a Santa Cruz artist, Maya. Maya is a non-binary activist who has been making art for years, and is working towards a Cosmetology license, focused in hair and makeup. While Maya does all types of hair cuts and colors, they specialize in alternative, creative, and vivid hair. They have found self-expression through creative hair as a crucial part of their development, from teenage years into adulthood. They also style stage wigs and love to do creative, abstract makeup, both on themselves and on others.

Maya has also been working at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk as a Caricature artist since Spring 2023. They work independent events as both a pop-up vendor, and an hourly contractor. They have been making visual art since adolescence from drawings to paintings, to digital and physical animations. Maya also prints and draws their designs onto buy-able clothing. All designs are original and all printing, sewing, and crocheting is done by hand.

In every creative outlet, Maya’s political passion drives their work. They graduated from Cabrillo College with an Associates in Political Science, thus, their pieces are rooted in leftist ideology. Above all, Maya values community and helping one another as neighbors of the world. They believe in non-wasteful, non-exploitative production, which is why everything created by Oblivion City Limits is hand-made by Maya, and all material is received second-hand.
